Neonatal ultrasounds and radiography

The medical field is beginning to understand how various diagnostic procedures based on x-rays can be replaced by ultrasound imaging, which is harmless and non-irradiating, by using state-of-the-art equipment. It’s worth remembering that the carcinogenic risk of x-rays is higher for younger patients than it is for adults.

The first phase of our project consists of acquiring a latest-generation, top of the range ultra-sound machine to replace traditional, x-ray based diagnostic procedures. The hospital currently has no such machine.

The second part of our project concerns cases where we are obligated to resort to radio-graphs, which often happens for patients in intensive care or the operating room.

A portable radiograph that can be disguised as a giraffe for pediatric use will permit us to subject our young patients to small x-ray doses, the minimal necessary for diagnosis, thanks to a latest-generation digital detector.
