Ever year, thousands of children under four years of age are victims of domestic accidents, which can even result in disability or death.
The “Safe Nurseries” projects seeks to train day care workers in Milan to confront pediatric emergencies with a pediatric first aid course that includes theory and practice.
Our pediatric first aid and prevention courses are taught by nurses from Pediatric Intensive Care at Vittore Buzzi Children’s Hospital. The course managers are instructors at the Italian Resuscitation Council; each course will contain 20 child care workers and two instructors.
The lessons include an interactive theoretical component accompanied by a slide show and Buzzi Foundation-produced film entitled: “OUR CHILDREN: Protecting Them and Giving First Aid.
Information on accident prevention and first aid will be given. The practical component will give each child care worker the chance to master resuscitation and clearing foreign airway obstructions through scenarios involving a mannequin.
The film component will be distributed electronically to each participating school for annual refresher courses, and to organize informational sessions for parents.
In 2018 and 2019, we brought the Safe Nurseries course to 100 day cares throughout Milan, and trained over one thousand child care workers.
Today, we want to bring the project to preschools, to expand our audience and ultimately in-crease the safety of our children at school. Any donation, no matter how small, will help us reach our goal!
